Most detox protocols mainly focus on supporting the liver and kidneys. The lymph system, however, is just as important for detoxing, but is often overlooked. Lymph stagnation is usually present in chronically ill individuals, and supporting lymph drainage is a crucial part of any detox plan.
One of the main functions of the lymph system is that it acts as the sewer system of the body. When toxins are carried out of the cells, they first pass through the extracellular matrix to the lymph, and then to the organs of elimination. When the lymph is stagnant, toxins will build up in the extracellular matrix, which can cause a worsening of symptoms.
Unlike blood, lymph does not have a pump that moves it into circulation.
The lymph system relies on muscle contraction in order to flow, which can be a problem for chronically fatigued individuals since they are typically inactive. Lack of movement or exercise will cause the lymph to become stagnant, blocking detoxification ability.
While chronically ill patients are encouraged to move or exercise if they can, the amount they are able to tolerate is usually not enough to properly move the lymph. Fortunately, there are other ways to support lymph drainage without having to exercise, and one of the most effective ways to do so is through Sophia Matrix therapy.
Sophia Matrix is a gentle manual lymph drainage technique that is performed by a massage therapist.
First, the lymph around the gut is cleared through gentle massage techniques so that the rest of the lymph in the body can flow to the gut for elimination. Next, the lymph in the head and neck is cleared to flow down to the gut. Many have found this helpful for clearing facial swelling after dental surgery or amalgam removal.
It is recommended to do Sophia Matrix once or twice a week for the first few sessions, and then once or twice a month for maintenance. It is generally recommended to do colon hydrotherapy either immediately before or after a Sophia Matrix session. It can initially cause a worsening of symptoms due to stirring up toxins and infections that were previously stagnant, so don’t be alarmed and give it few weeks. Still, for this reason it is best to start Sophia Matrix with the guidance of your doctor as part of a comprehensive detox protocol to minimize any negative reactions.
